My name is Pablo and I am the resident Axolotl at The Next Step.
I came to The Next Step in 2017 after starting my life at a local pet store where the kind people there decided to donate me to TNS and here I am. I like it here, my tank is situated in the new Wellness hub upstairs which is really relaxing & I enjoy watching the athletes go for their Massages, Acupuncture & Naturopathy sessions.

I am originally from Central Mexico & also known as a 'Mexican walking fish' which is kind of strange because I am not a fish, I am an amphibian.

5 things you should know about me:

-
I can grow back any lost limbs in just a few weeks, and some of us even grow extra limbs. I can even replace my lungs and parts of my brain if it suffers a head injury and it heals without any scarring.
-
If you crushed my spinal cord in about three weeks, all of the spinal cord machinery would reconnect and my tail and my legs will work again. This is because I transform nearby cells to stem cells, forming bones, skins, and veins in their exact original state.
-
We are almost extinct in Central Mexico now and you'll likely find us in laboratories because scientists are still baffled by our regenerative abilities and one day hope to cure paralysis by studying us in more detail!
-
I am a carnivore & blood worms are my favourite thing to eat!
-
My life mantra is "Al mal tiempo, buena cara" which trasnslates in english to "Put a good face to the bad times. Be positive".
