My name is Helena Ousalkas and I am a Naturopath at The Next Step.


Naturopathy is a modality that looks at diet and lifestyle and how they can be modified to improve health. Primarily I use diet and lifestyle counselling in conjunction with natural living practices, however I may recommend herbal medicine and nutritional supplementation if needed to aid with managing disease and restoring optimal health. Diet and lifestyle play a role in health and disease and this has repeatedly been validated by scientific research. In my practice, I use the most relevant evidence-based clinical studies combined with natural living principles to achieve your health goals.


Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) has many complications and therefore it is more important that health should be made a priority. Nutrition and lifestyle practices can significantly help with conditions such as urinary tract infections, neurogenic bowel, pressure sores, pain, weight management and immune-related conditions. While I primarily assist with SCI and their complications, I also can provide help with many other conditions. At TNS I provide a one-on-one consultation where I assess your health history and provide practical advice along with education on how to improve your health. Health is often overlooked in our busy lives – but it is so important because without your health you can’t live your best life.


TNS is more than just a place to train. It is a place where people connect, can come to find help and laughter and a place where everyone is made welcome. The athletes, the trainers and everyone that forms the family at TNS inspire me every single day with their stories, positivity and humour. Working as a naturopath and at TNS has fulfilled my dream of helping others.


Outside of TNS you can find me exploring new places, reading (any suggestions for a good book?) and taking advantage of the rare sunny Melbourne day. Nothing makes me happier than being around water and going for a swim.
